Boss, our ferocious Livestock Guardian Dog protecting Little Girl our friendly barn cat

Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs) were selectively bred over centuries throughout Western Asia and Europe to be intimidating enough to ward off a pack of wolves while also gentle enough to keep their flock of sheep or herd of cattle at ease.  Although historically bred to live fully with their flock independent of human owners, our LGDs Emma and Boss are both animal guardians and farmer’s best friend. By night they are on high alert patrolling their territory keeping coyotes away.  By day, when not sleeping, they are fantastic companions accompanying us on chores, tongues out and tails wagging, occasionally flopping on their backs begging for a belly rub.
